Why measure emissions?

Wastewater treatment plants are a major source of direct greenhouse gas emissions. Nitrous oxide (N₂O) in particular - over 260 times more harmful to the climate than CO₂ - and methane (CH₄) contribute significantly to the ecological footprint. At the same time, stricter legal requirements and ambitious climate targets are increasing the pressure on operators.

Only with continuous real-time measurement can emissions be reliably recorded, processes specifically optimized and regulatory safety guaranteed. This is precisely where EmiCo comes in.

EmiCo is the first system that records greenhouse gases in gas and liquid phase and monitors up to 16 measuring points simultaneously. This gives operators complete transparency about their plant and the basis for controlling processes in real time.

The solution is ideal for large wastewater treatment plants, research projects and industrial applications. A single device replaces numerous individual installations and makes emission monitoring efficient and economical.

Depending on requirements, EmiCo can be equipped with a process mass spectrometer or an FT-IR analyzer.

  • The mass spectrometer measures in both gas and liquid phase and covers a very large measuring range. It is the right choice if operators require particularly deep insights into the processes of biological purification.
  • The FT-IR analyzer concentrates on the gas phase and offers very high sensitivity - ideal for low-maintenance continuous operation with stable performance.

Both variants deliver precise real-time data and offer maximum flexibility, depending on the area of application.

The biological purification process of a wastewater treatment plant often involves several tanks. Many measuring points are therefore required for seamless monitoring. While other systems require several devices, with EmiCo a single analyzer is sufficient to cover up to 16 measuring points. Intelligent valve circuits ensure that each measurement takes place at short intervals - continuously and precisely, without additional effort.

EmiCo is designed to support, not burden, everyday life. The system is delivered pre-calibrated, carries out automatic checks and only requires annual maintenance by the Variolytics service team.

Data integration is uncomplicated: The measurement results are stored locally and can be integrated directly into the control system. Alternatively, the cloud connection offers secure access from anywhere. It goes without saying that EmiCo meets all current security standards, including EU-NIS2.

The accompanying EmiCo OS software transforms raw data into a valuable basis for decision-making. Emissions can be visualized in real time and the integrated EmiCo Assistant automatically detects inefficient process states.

This results in specific recommendations for action that reduce operating costs and ensure compliance with regulations. Whether for engineers in detail or for decision-makers in management - EmiCo OS provides the right insights in a comprehensive form.
