Research areas

Our advanced measurement technologies, EmiCo lite and Vario two, open up exciting research opportunities in various fields. Below are some ideas for research areas that students and researchers can explore with our instruments:

Emissions from wastewater treatment

Use of EmiCo lite to investigate real-time monitoring of nitrous oxide (N₂O) and methane (CH₄) emissions in the biological stage of wastewater treatment plants. Research could focus on optimizing process control to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is in line with Net-Zero goals.

Monitoring of landfill emissions

Investigate the use of EmiCo lite to measure direct emissions of methane (CH₄) and other greenhouse gases from landfills. Studies could assess emission rates and develop reduction strategies to support environmental sustainability.

Optimization of fermentation processes

Use Vario two's simultaneous liquid and gas phase analysis to study fermentation processes in biotechnology. Research could focus on improving yield and efficiency in bioreactors by monitoring volatile compounds in real time.

Environmental monitoring

Use Vario two to carry out environmental monitoring studies, e.g. to analyze volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in water or air. Within the scope of projects, sources of pollution and their effects on ecosystems can be researched, thus contributing to environmental protection strategies.
