In his presentation, Dr. Stier explained why direct measurement of greenhouse gases (GHG) is the essential first step towards net zero commitments for wastewater companies. He showed how continuous exhaust air data can be translated into immediate, cost-effective optimization measures that reduce both N₂O and energy-related CO₂ emissions. Beyond the climate impact, he emphasized that this approach also strengthens the overall performance of nitrogen elimination by identifying process conditions that affect nitrification or denitrification. As a result, farms can not only reduce emissions and energy consumption, but also achieve more stable and efficient overall nitrogen removal.
